Whisper of the Heart seemed to bore me in the beginning but as I watched on I was captured by the magical scenes in the girl's imagination.
And as the story progress, I was on the edge of my seat, listening to every word that comes out of the characters mouth (Or every word in the subtitles).
By the end, it'll make you inspired to polish your own talent, or find the thing that raw gem in your heart.
I liked this movie, although of the slow moments and its somewhat abrupt ending.
But this movie is a good love story and it has a unique quality that you don't seemed to find very often.
Not a must see, but still worth seeing at some point.Excellent but not for whole family - Shane55
My family and I have been working our way through all the Ghibli Studio movies and when this one came up, I could tell the kids were a little disappointed. The content was a little too mature for 6 and 9 year olds. They missed out on a lot of the subtle themes. My wife and I enjoyed it but it was definitely missing a lot of the magic that we got used to with Kiki, Totoro, and Moving Castle. We'll keep going with Ghibli but if you're watching these with the kids, skip Whisper of the Heart.A perfect coming of age story - Mookie
I sought out this film because I have such a huge admiration for the other works of Hayao Miyazaki. It did not disappoint.
What is most impressive about his work is how he seems to capture the world of children and (in this film) teenagers perfectly. Unlike his other films, there is no fantasy element in this film. What you have is a beautifully crafted story about a young girl making the transition from childhood to being a teenager and all the angst that can bring.
