Sliver

You like to watch... don't you
Based on the bestselling novel by Ira Levin, the story follows Carly Norris, a woman who is looking for excitement in her life after ending an unhappy marriage. She moves into a 'sliver' - what New Yorkers call the lofty, narrow apartment buildings unique to Manhattan. There, she is drawn into a mysterious world that tests the fragile boundaries between reality and her secret fantasies.

I guess when some people say that this is one of the first real steamy movies, they're not kidding. It was kind of a mixture of sexy, cheesy and a little clumsy. By the end of the movie, I was a little confused as to why things played out the way they did. It almost reminds me of those late night soft-core porn movies they have on t.v. but with the slight advantage of big ticket actors. Can't Help Falling In Love... - blissful_muse07
One of the very first steamy movies that I saw back in the 90's. Seduction and voyeurism at its best for the time period. Also what a perfect song to play in the movie with UB40's version of Can't Help Falling in Love. Sharon Stone and William Baldwin really heat up the screen in this one especially during the dinner scene.Dumbest. Ending. Ever. - cathyottawa
This film is actually more relevant today than when it first came out in 1993 - because since then, reality TV has become so pervasive, it dominates the small screen, and this is making a comment on our voyeristic culture.
I don't know that I found Billy Baldwin's ability to put cameras into every apartment of an entire highrise building without anyone knowing about it too plausible. Okay, they make him a millionaire computer whiz who owns the building, but still.
With today's nanny cams, however, I would find it more believable.
I also don't think his character would reveal this secret to Sharon Stone - but I liked what happenned when he did. Her horror turns to morbid curiosity, and she watches for hours.
But the voyerism is actually only a small part of this movie. It's got a 9½ weeks vibe to it, with Baldwin bringing Stone out of her shell.
And then, or coarse, it's a murder mystery - a very very lame murder mystery. With, as I said, the dumbest, most unsatisfying ending ever.
