Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World
A New Film from Albert Brooks
Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World is the hilarious story of what happens when the U.S. Government sends comedian Albert Brooks to India and Pakistan to find out what makes the over 300 million Muslims in the region laugh. Brooks, accompanied by two state department handlers and his trusted assistant, goes on a journey that takes him from a concert stage in New Delhi, to the Taj Mahal, to a secret location in the mountains of Pakistan. Written and directed by Albert Brooks, Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World is a funny and insightful look at some of the issues we are dealing with in a post-9/11 world. The comedy also stars Sheetal Sheth, John Carroll Lynch, Jon Tenney, and Fred Dalton Thompson.

This film entirely missed its mark, regardless of whether it was supposed to be satirical, a plain comedy or a serious film.
The jokes in the film would have been corny 30 years ago; today, they are just bad.
There are points where you think that they are going in the direction of The Office's awkward humour, but then it entirely fails to carry through.
At one or two points, it feels like they are trying to make a serious point, but then they just finish with a weak gag that makes any gesture meaningless.
Who ever wrote the review "Hilarious Classic Brooks" (as displayed on the dvd box) must have either been a relative of Albert Brooks or paid off by him.
Frankly, watch Half-Baked. At least the stoner jokes are genuine. Not really funny. - xpupo
I added this to my ziplist because I thought the concept was interesting.
However, this film isn't really funny. At the most it made me grin and maybe go "hehehe". But thats about it. This film shouldn't even be categorized as a "comedy" but its more of a social-political commentary that illustrates how misunderstanding can lead to a war.
It would have been funnier if we had the main character unexpectedly tripping or farting or having more stupid silly things happen to him.
I also didn't like the last part where Henry Kissinger was mentioned as if he's a hero or something. Google "NSSM 200" and read it and maybe you might have a different opinion.Albert, Albert, Albert... - AlexM
Albert, Albert, Albert...
I've been a fan of Albert's since...forever.
I have watched his other films over, and over, and over.
This film was an embarrassment and excruciating to watch.
I felt like I died and went to hell, and the devil was showing me an unfunny Albert Brooks film...I had thought that it would have been impossible that I would ever watch an Albert Brooks film and not laugh, but here it was.
I sat through half of the movie stoned faced, and to put myself out of my misery I had to fast-forward the rest of the film, only occasionally stopping to see if there were some funny bits...there weren't.
By the end I had to walk out of my living room...If I had seen this in the theatre...I would have walked out.
