Man Friday / Raise The Titanic (Double Feature)
Man Friday (1975 - 112 minutes)
Daniel Defoe's classic story of survival and heroism takes on a whole new perspective in this action-adventure tour de force. Peter O'Toole stars as Robinson Crusoe and Richard Rountree is his man Friday. Marooned on a beautiful South Seas island, they face their fiercest battles with each other as they attempt to adapt and survive against all odds.
Raise The Titanic (1989 - 114 minutes)
Adapted from Clive Cussler's international best-seller, Raise The Titanic depicts the amazing efforts to salvage the Titanic in order to recover material vital to the United States' defense. The Herculean project must be managed in absolute secrecy, despite the extreme rigors of the climate, deadly interference from a rival nation and the need to invent technology never before conceived.

MAN FRIDAY- 3 stars
If you're looking for a traditional Robinson Crusoe tale, this isn't it. This story takes on a whole new perspective, portraying Crusoe as hardheaded and snobbish while Friday is intelligent and caring. The movie focuses completely on the relationship between the two. The idiosyncracies of Western culture and Christianity seem to be played out in this movie and, by the end, you feel more pity for Crusoe rather than the man he mistreats. The acting wasn't the greatest and the story was a little confusing and odd sometimes, but still, an interesting perspective on a fascinating book.
RAISE THE TITANIC- 2 stars
I don't understand why this was nominated as the worst movie of the year it came out. Okay, I must admit, the movie, for its expensive budget, failed to impress. The enormous potential it had was lost with such a lack of excitement that it was unbelievable. There were scenes where you wished that somebody would at least drop something, just to make it interesting. There was no need for many of the characters, such as the love interest or the Russians, the leader being about as menacing as a hot dog. There was a whole bunch of talk talk talk but not much else. On the positive side, the music by John Barry was excellent, and the acting was half-decent.
