The Pink Panther
Get a clue!
A famous soccer coach has been murdered and his priceless ring stolen - a ring set with the stunning diamond known as the Pink Panther. Cracking the case becomes a national obsession, and Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Kevin Kline), up for the prestigious Medal of Honor...again...for the seventh time... can't afford any mistakes - at least none that can be attributed to him.
Enter indefatigable Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin), a name that strikes fear into... well, everyone. His deductive powers are limited, his command of the language frightening, his reflexes hazardous. His approach may be alarmingly unorthodox, but he always solves the crime - in his own fashion -- with hilarious results.

Really good movie. - moviegenius
This was a really funny movie. I like Steve Martin a lot. The situations he would get himself into were so funny. Poor Kevin Kline. Nothing went right for him. Beyonce was okay. She wasn't in it much. The mystery was okay, but the comedy was much better. One thing I also really liked was Jean Reno. He was very good as Steve Martin's partner. The kids will love it and the adults will love it.I would like to buy a hamburger - AandW
Steve Martin plays inspector Jacques Clouseau, a bumbling buffoon who somehow always seems be in the right place at the right time to accidentally catch his man or at least be able to take credit for catching them. When a soccer star is killed with no witnesses even though there are thousands of people at the match and the pink panther diamond is stolen, Clouseau is assigned to the case. Beyonce has a supporting role as one of the suspects. You have to like Steve Martins style and not be attached to Peter Sellers - DeRat
Unfortunately I'm not in either of those categories... I found Steve Martins portrayal of the Clouseau lacking, I thought his physical comedy was... over the top isn't the right description as that’s kind of the idea, but its just not there... with Sellers it was there, I think I was perhaps to attached to the originals to see this with neutral eyes... in the extra features, or maybe in the commentary someone even says that Martin didn't want to channel Sellers but rather wanted to own or portray Clouseau his own way... for me that kind of clicked as to why it never felt right... I fell in love with the peters Sellers version of Clouseau and Martins version is just not there, but in a "too much" for his own good kind of way. The badge pin jabbing joke is there but different, the globe joke is there but different or bigger, falling down a flight of stairs is there, but its not parallel bar dismount funny... the misplayed word jokes are there but it just never hits the quality of "Does your dog bite?"
If you’re a true Pink Panther fan you may not appreciate this movie other than its new, and you have not seen it before... Kline and Reno put in great performances and probably saved this movie a bit, unfortunately it seems Reno replaced Kato in a weak attempt to keep that piece of the legacy alive (apparently Martin figures he's too old for that type of physical comedy so it's nothing like the full on brawls Clouseau and Kato have had in previous movies - again a commentary comment I think).
In the end there are some priceless moments - Martins first scene with the secretary included, but not many and most of the jokes are pretty vanilla especially if you've seen the older films as many jokes are copied or slightly different so you know what’s coming and if you've seen all the previews and/or trailers they cover a ton of funny moments and really detract from the enjoyment because everything funny is a rerun
