Dreamgirls
Fame comes and goes, stars rise and fall, but dreams live forever.
Based on the Tony Award-winning musical, Dreamgirls, set in the turbulent late 1960s and early '70s, follows the rise of a trio of women -- Effie (Jennifer Hudson), Deena (Beyonce Knowles) and Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose) -- who have formed a promising girl group called The Dreamettes. At a talent competition, they are discovered by an ambitious manager named Curtis Taylor, Jr. (Jamie Foxx), who offers them the opportunity of a lifetime: to become the back-up singers for headliner James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy). Curtis gradually takes control of the girls' look and sound, eventually giving them their own shot in the spotlight as The Dreams. That spotlight, however, begins to narrow in on Deena, finally pushing the less attractive Effie out altogether. Though the Dreams become a cross-over phenomenon, they soon realize that the cost of fame and fortune may be higher than they ever imagined.

Jennifer Hudson... what a voice! Her rendition of Effy (sp?) is great, and sad at the same time. You want to slap her husband because of the way he treats her star. Beyonce is also a very good voice in this movie... so again, if you like the musical, you will surely want to rent this.and I'm telling you....... - hilkayaker
I heard about this movie when it came out and boy-cotted it on principle because I thought it sounded dumb. I saw it on tv and decided to try it out and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a really good movie. Jennifer Hudson stole the show and was way better than Beyonce. The songs were really good and I was surprised to see that a couple songs have been on Glee and I knew them from there. I would recomend it for a fun musical.Fantabulous! - Andigirl
My oh my Miss Jennifer Hudson....Hand that girl ANOTHER oscar. who knew Dr. Doolittle had that in him? Incredible, incredible cast. Every little bit of this movie shone like the sequins on their dresses. Mr. Murphy may I have another? You will find yourself floored by the performance of Eddie Murphy. We all knew that Jamie Foxx had all that....but the guy that enjoyed flatulence in the bathtub....Yeah he got that too. Even the "unknowns" in the cast were 10s. If you like your music and can appreciate a great set of pipes....there are PLENTY to be had in this movie.
