I love Michael Caine but this movie, I'm sorry, really sucked. I didn't make it past the first half hour before taking out the disc and deciding to watch some TV instead. Whatever I saw was very slow-paced and not easy to follow, this is not a piece of work for Caine to be proud to be a part of.Not worth it. - chef_one
I feel I need to pass this along. I recently rented Bullet to Beijing. I honestly didn't make it past the first half of the movie before I ejected it, stuck the disc back in it's sleeve and sent it back. Maybe it was my mood or lack of patience for bad film. In either case, I think this one was lost on me. Perhaps others will enjoy this cheap espionage thriller better.Limp attempt to revive famous series - Superdave
Michael Caine played everyman spy Harry Palmer several times in the late sixties (The Ipcress File, Funeral in Berlin, Billion Dollar Brain) with great success, but this revision of the series was a pretty weak entry. In it, a now retired Palmer takes on a seemingly straightforward job in post-glasnost Russia, only to discover that (what else) there is more going on than meets the eye. Caine is good as ever and the movie captures the docudrama look of the early hits but lacks the appropriate atmosphere of threat to make for an effective intrigue thriller. It does not help matters that most of the plot 'twists' are predictably obvious.
