The Frisco Kid
The Wild West adventures of a strictly kosher cowboy
It's 1850 and new rabbi Avram Belinski sets out from Philadelphia toward San Francisco. Cowpoke bandit Tom Lillard hasn't seen a rabbi before. But he knows when one needs a heap of help. And getting this tenderfoot to Frisco in one piece will cause a heap of trouble - with the law, Native Americans and a bunch of killers.
Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford are one feisty team as rabbi and rescuer in this rough-'n'-ready romp that rivals Wilder's earlier Blazing Saddles in Wild West hilarity. Director Robert Aldrich is a seasoned hand at blending roughhouse and laughter, as fans of his earlier The Dirty Dozen and The Longest Yard will attest. With a full posse of screen talents, The Frisco Kid rides tall in the comedy saddle.

I think this is a really good movie. Gene Wilder is wonderful in the role of the rabbi, he never treats the role as that of a clown or a stereotype, I think it's a better performance than that of of his Young Frankenstein. Harrison Ford is great, it's combination of Han Solo and Indiana Jones. I think their scenes together are great.one star, because I can't give it zero. - SuperHeroic
I saw this as a kid with my dad when it was in the theatres, and I thought I'd give it a try now. Mistake! This was one of the worst examples of "studio movies" I can think of..not a bit of realism in the sets or locations (at no time did it not look like they were on a soundstage)..silly, but silly enough. Not funny enough to be a comedy, not western enough to be a western. A waste of Gene Wilder's comic genius. Skip this one. Rent Blazing Saddles instead.
