I miss Dave Chapelle more than American Gladiators - AntonF_MD
Ever since this movie cam out I wanted to see it badly, too bad I waited 4 years. This movie isn't so much a comedy as it is a community coming together. Having a good time with some good music. You always know it will be a good time when the Roots are involved. I enjoyed this thoroughly and wish to see Dave Chapelle start up his career again. If you DC then this is for you, a lot of classic hip hop/rap artists involved. Good times! If you love hip-hop, you'll love this movie... - r_and_d
Dave Chappelle always makes me laugh. I love "alt" hip-hop (Mos Def, Dead Prez, Common, Kanye West, Eryka Badu). What could be better than having them both at the same time? Not much, unless you don't like either of those things...
Filmed in documentary style, weird at times, funny, and the music is fabulous. Location scouts should definitely keep the "Broken Angel" house in mind. If you rent this movie, you'll know what I mean.Go To The Party! - jjlook
Dave Chappelle is best known for going crazy or sane depending on your perspective of his dumping of a Corporate income and outlet. This is a labour of love, there could be no profit motive in this party present he throws. Even if this were just a concert movie, it'd probably be awesome. Kanye, Mos Def, the Roots and more all in a surprise block party in Brooklyn. But under the sharp composition of Gondry and with the genial hosting of Chappelle, effortlessly funny with a bullhorn and subversive jokes, this is truly great. Chappelle brings the best out of his Ohio acquaintances, famous musicians and Brooklyn oddballs equally. The movie has the spirit of an anarchist party...the various performers combine efforts to terrific effect (the Roots giving live tight panache to the hip hop stars, the Ohio marching band lending Kanye his new signature...) but there is no lack of message here. Sometimes that message is an angry critique of the white house or racism, and sometimes that message is simply: Dance. In short: you will leave wishing you were invited to the party. Unless you were there, in which case, you have my envy.
