Very funny remake of the Lubitsch original. - estefan
Though he didn't direct this, it has Mel Brooks' brilliant comedic fingerprints all over this (not to dis-credit Alan Johnson's great direction, though). The screenplay is smart and funny, elevated by the strong work by all of the actors involved. The bits between Charles Durning and Christopher Lloyd's Nazis are especially the most gut-busting funny moments to be found here. However, the film does not take away from the serious subject matter and its dramatic elements work very well, too. Nonetheless, To Be Or Not to Be is a hilarious picture from beginning to end, just as fantastic as the Ernst Lubitsch original and frankly, I welcome any and all opportunity to portray the Third Reich as fools.one of my favourite mel brooks movies - idapita
its one of my favourite's of his and i'm not sure why. it's one of the only ones he did that he didnt write (except a couple of songs). partly its good coz its a serious story with funny parts and has a little more story than some of his movies, yet i totally find parts of it hilarious! :PTo Be or Not to Be - Dina
This film was not to be a great one, but it was entertaining enough to watch once. There were some laugh out loud moments and some laugh inside moments, too, but overall the comedy was lame and so was the acting. There really is nothing of value here, but if you want to watch this one, go ahead. Nobody's going to stop you. Just don't expect too much.
