Kinky Boots
How far would you go to save the family business?
With the sudden death of his father, Charlie Price (Joel Edgerton) takes up the reins of the family’s traditional, Northampton shoe business—Price and Sons. But Charlie quickly discovers it is not business as usual and without new orders, bankruptcy looms. As a skeptical workforce debate their novice manager, Charlie looks to London for solutions, and in a chance encounter, discovers sassy cabaret star, Lola (Chiwetel Ejiofor), whose Soho world of outrageous fashion and stylish, erotic boots for men opens his eyes to an intriguing niche market, a long way from men’s classic brogues.
With trepidation, but spurred on by feisty factory worker Lauren (Sarah Jane Potts), Charlie enlists Lola’s help to diversify and make erotic women’s boots for a male market. But Lola’s arrival at the provincial factory is greeted with ridicule and animosity, not least by Nicola, Charlie’s girlfriend (Jemima Rooper). The hapless but lovable Charlie ploughs ahead with Lola, who, hiding her own insecurities, takes charge of design and employs some of her show-stopping bravado to help win over the fractured workforce and bring the boots to life. With only weeks to go until the crucial Milan Shoe Fair, the factory is in full swing with leopard skins and PVC replacing the bronzed suedes and shiny leather, but it is now Charlie’s drive for perfection and success which threatens the production line and Milan.

Super cute, fun film.
It's Full Monty meets To Wong Foo, Thanks for everything Julie Newmar - if you liked either movie rent this one for sure!
Totally worth the rental!
Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola was a delightful departure from more serious characters like he's played in Firefly / Serenity etc.Great fluffy fun! - Manuel
Don't expect anything profound, and the plot is pretty predictable, but that didn't take away from the enjoyment for me. It's a delightful faery tale-like story told in an entertaining way. Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola is fabulous, dahling. S/He's a natural entertainer and is both convincing and very likable. The movie loses points for having given away its best lines in the trailers. I hate it when they do that! Still definitely worth seeing though.Enchanting story of a drag queen and a shoemaker, - tlefrancois
"Kinky Boots" is a delightful film based on a true story about the travails of a shoe manufacturing factory set in Northampton, England. When Charlie Price (Joel Edgerton) takes over the family shoe business, he discovers the company is practically out of business. After laying off a bunch of people, one of the young women he's making "redundant" tells him the company needs to find its niche. He finds it by accident when he helps a drag queen named Lola (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who's about to be attacked by a group of men. After watching Lola's shows, Charlie decides the niche will be shoe wear for "a variety of men," i.e., drag queens et al., who have trouble finding womens shoes that fit. He invites Lola to Northampton to help design and test the shoes.
Funny, warm, with characters you care about, "Kinky Boots" says something about societal attitudes towards those who are different and what it truly means to be a man, but doesn't beat you over the head with it. It has a great story, lots of humor, and excellent acting, particularly from Chiwetel Ejiofor and Joel Edgerton.
