United 93
On September 11th, One Of the Darkest Days In Our History, 40 Ordinary People Sat Down As Strangers And Stood Up As One.
A defining day in our history.
It's an event that shock the world. Honest, unflinching and profoundly moving, United 93 tell the unforgettable story of the heroic passengers and crew members who prevented the terrorists from carrying out their plans for the fourth hijacked plane on September 11, 2001. As on-ground military and civilian teams scrambled to make sense of the unfolding events, forty people who sat down as strangers found the courage to stand up as one.

I refused to see this film in the theatres thinking it to be a grotesque exploitation of other people's misery. I rented it on the advice of a fellow cinephile and quickly realized how wrong I had been. If anything this film is a respectful memorial to those who lost their lives on 9/11....one only has to see the family interviews in the "extras" section to realize this. Technically and artistically it is a tremendous achievement.....with a frantic verite style and believable dialogue delivered by some amazing actors. One gets the claustrophobic feeling that they are actually silent witnesses on the plane itself rather than passive observers. There is no political grandstanding, no patriotic propaganda.......just a heartbreaking story of some ordinary people in an extraordinary situation.A Tough Watch - ABC99
The way Paul Greengrass puts the audience through the events of September 11th is unlike anything I can remember. There are no characters just the collection of strangers we all spend time with each day when in the community. It's surprising how intense and relatable the experiance is watching people complete their daily routine when you know they on have 90 minutes left in their life.
This a powerful experiance that is not easy too sit through but worth it. It pays tribute to those who died by dipicting them honestly.Powerful, emotional. - eoguy
Watching "United 93" was the most intense, raw and emotional experience I have ever had at the movies. At the end of this 90 minute real-time reenactment, I was left sobbing and shaking, and I could hear other people in the theater sobbing too. In fact, looking back on the film as I write this, I find that I have tears in my eyes again. Everything about "United 93" is real. I'm not usually a big fan of the hand-held camera technique, but Paul Greengrass masterfully employs hand-helds to bring a sense of immediacy to the action without sacrificing clarity. No stars were cast for this film, and none of the actors in the movie are immediately recognizable. A couple of "those guys," perennial supporting actors like David Rasche, make appearances, but a couple members of the ground crew actually play themselves, and you never think for a minute that any of these people are anything but real. In fact, you never think during the entire 90 minutes ordeal that you aren't there with those people. And it is a difficult, heart and gut wrenching experience, which is how it should be, I suppose. I will probably not see "United 93" again. Being on a doomed airplane is not a particularly pleasant way to spend an hour and a half. But I'm definitely not sorry I saw it, and I will probably not forget the emotion it evoked any time soon.
