Art School Confidential
Art student Jerome (Max Minghella) dreams of becoming the greatest artist in the world. Arriving as a freshman at a prestigious East Coast art school filled with every artsy "type" there is, Jerome quickly discovers his affected style and arrogance won't get him very far. When he sees that a clueless jock is attracting the glory rightfully due him, he hatches an all-or-nothing plan to hit it big in the art world and win the heart of the most beautiful girl in the school.

Can you really teach art? You can teach the structure and the tools but you really can't teach originality and creativity. Art School Confidential not only says you can't teach creativity but the teachers and students that think they can be taught are hilarious.
And it is hilarious, despite a strange serial killer subplot. Funny, original stuff.Again a documentry passing for comedy? - 213468280576
Don't know what people are down on this movie about. Good flick. Man, the art and the characters were sure realistic. That is indeed what art school looks like. Anyway, a story, some insight, funny. Easy on the eyes, bright colors, nice pictures, some pretty people. I even got involved in the story.Uneven - legalwright
Terry Zwigoff presents another coming of age story, similar to that of Ghost World. Instead of Enid, we have Gerome, a freshman entering a fine art college. He encounters a bewildering mix of influences, from strange roomates, to even stranger professors (John Malkovich) and of course, women. The story takes us through Gerome's first term as he comes to terms with his ambition and the strange milieu he finds himself in.
The film is at its strongest on its presentation of art criticism. Gerome is talented but his talent is largely overlooked as the students and professors prefer art that has a political or social "message". The film's weakness lies in the coarse tone presented by Gerome's roomate and the characters played by Steve Buscemi and Jim Broadbent. These characters were extremely foul mouthed and really it was unnecessary. It is entirely possible to present dark characters without the profanity.
The movie has moments of brilliance and overall you can appreciate the irony being presented. Much better than Bad Santa (which I didn't finish) but not as good as Ghost World.
