Mission: Impossible 3
Tom Cruise returns to one of his signature roles, Secret Agent Ethan Hunt, in Mission: Impossible III. In this pulse-racing, mind-bending action thriller, Hunt confronts the toughest villain he's ever faced - Owen Davian (Academy Award® winner Philip Seymour Hoffman), an international weapons and information provider with no remorse and no conscience.

An all-right action movie for an evening of turning your mind off completely.
A few minor - or actually major - details that clearly stated that this was a number 3 in a series: It was never explained to us - the audience - what exactly this famous rabbit foot was! Nor were we shown how exactly Tom Cruise got a-hold of it - minor details, I suppose... (??? Really??)
So, action is fine, but a little bit to keep the braincells going as well doesn't hurt.
I liked Philip Seymour Hoffman in this movie, he definitely added a good touch - and I was laughing a lot 'cause there was really a lot to laugh about - and laughing is good! It's not their fault. It's mine. - KevinJaques
I didn't get very involved with this movie.
It was 125 minutes long. It was good, but somehow I didn’t get that involved in it. Perhaps I was tired.
As usual, there was a rogue IMF agent since obviously that would be the only possible real threat to Ethan Hunt. But this time, the rogue turns pretty much all the IMF agents against Ethan. That's challenging even for him.
J.J. Abrams directed, with a bit of flair. There were just a few arty action bits, like helicopter blades among windmill blades. There was a very powerful scene where Ethan is prisoner and tries desperately and unsuccessfully to manipulate the villain into not shooting Ethan’s wife. It opens with that then flashes back till it works up to that again.
There was just the hint of a novel theme that even the best have limits and so they have failures and they might especially not have any clue how to deal with that. But if so, then these, the best of film-makers, failed.
Perhaps I am getting too old to identify with action heroes, or perhaps the action heroes are getting too absurd to make it possible. This movie was comparatively good that way. Yes, he was super–human, but only in that every trait was at the maximum of human potential, and in a world where physics actually operates. A lot of other action movies don't even try. 90 pound girls throw 250 pound men 20 feet with one punch. Still, there is one scene where Ethan is bound hand and foot to a chair and still overpowers the rogue IMF agent. I just couldn’t swallow it. I rewound and watched it again. That time I saw their excuse for how it could happen, but it was still silly.
So, it wasn’t them, it was me. I’m blaming myself. I was tired and a bit queasy. I love the franchise and they worked hard at this movie. It’s an easy 3 star, but it gets the 4th star mostly out of a sense of fair play. If they had gotten me involved, plus developed that theme, it would have been a 5 star.Better than expected - birdbrain
After being thoroughly disappointed by MI2, I had written off the series, but heard that MI3 was an improvement. So took and chance and rented MI3.
This is certainly a high energy movie. Nothing overly clever, but we enjoyed the almost non-stop action. Perhaps sliding it into the DVD player with low expectations helps. The plot is not complex, nor is it filled with twists and turns, but the tension is kept high and it moves at a very fast pace. Enjoyable evening distraction.
