Dream to Believe (a.k.a. Flying)
If you can dream, you can believe.
Starring Keanu Reeves (Speed, The Matrix) in one of his early performances, Dream to Believe is a feel good story about hope and realizing your dreams when all the odds are stacked against you.
Robin (Olivia D'Abo - Wayne's World 2, The Wonder Years) is a high school gymnast with big dreams. But in order to achieve them, she must overcome even bigger odds. When she loses her father and gets seriously injured in a car accident, her hopes are shattered. Without her dad by her side and with the injuries threatening her gymnastics career, she goes to live with her ailing mother and abusive stepfather. Through it all, her boyfriend (Reeves) is a constant shoulder to cry on.
A story about how love can help triumph against adversity and how everyone can dream to believe.

Don't get suckered into watching Dream to Believe just because Keanu Reeves is in it! Silly me, I should have known better. (Much better!) This film is truly unwatchable. It's not even a good teenage 'strive to be all you can be' kind of film. It's way too long with a one note plot. Ugg.Mediocre Flashdance Ripoff. - cathyottawa
Only, instead of dancing, it's gymnastics. Instead of being afraid to try out for the dance school, she's afraid to try out for the school team. Instead of a cool warehouse apartment, she "trains" in a carpet warehouse. Instead of a rich boyfriend, she has a rich best friend. Instead of a bicycle, she drives a moped. Instead of her ballet teacher friend dying, her.. well, I'll leave it in case you actually don't want this spoiled for you.
And do you think it's all leading up to the big meet at the end? You betcha!
This includes a cringe worthy, awkward sex scene between D'Abo and Reeves. And in case we didn't catch that it's their "first time", there's a song playing in the background called "The First TIme". And if we still didn't get it, they show them washing the bed sheets together. Charming.
I don't know where the descriptor gets the Rocky comparison from. This was clearly looking to cash in on the popularity of Flashdance.
