Family. Loyalty. Innocence is a casualty of war.
While revolution simmers, the charismatic "fixer" Che tries to keep order in his small town until rebels blow up the local power plant and the lights go out. Now, everyone must confront the growing turmoil in their midst, including the Police Captain and the rebellious young revolutionary Ricky. CUBAN BLOOD a.k.a. Dreaming of Julia - BIKO
I rented this movie because it starred the wonderful
Harvey Keitel, Gael Garcia Bernal, and takes place in revolutionary Cuba, an interesting time. ( the Dominican Republic stood in) Keitel also co-produced,and continues one of the hallmarks of his career, working with first-time, little-known,or foreign directors, often with startlingly original results. In this case I found visually much to enjoy, and an especially attractive cast, but boy- the movie was all over the place, needed serious editing and a coherent tone- or was it meant as magical realism? It went on far too long, one stops caring, and some of the scenes plus serious music are just over the top, almost ludicrous. However, I give it marks for being good-looking, and sometimes interesting. I'd recommend " Finding Graceland " to any Harvey fans who haven't seen it...
