Medical wonder and triumph of the human spirit! - AvidOscarBee
A group of doctors, young student nurses and an experienced nurse, played by Lindsey Wagner, with a relief worker, played by Robert Loggia, decide to head to Mexico, in the heart of the jungle, to get "hands on experience" and earn a credit for the undergraduate studies.
A group of 10 head out into three separate planes, the size of Cessna's. As they are nearing their site to land, one of the more experienced pilots starts playing around by doing different flying stunts as he's trying to impress his passengers. The plane starts to desend and eventually crashes. The other two planes successfully land but know that they need to find their friends, and possibly try to save their lives.
Various risks must be taken in order to find them, so the group separate and one set goes off to find medicine and the other set of 3 student nurses goes with a local villager in his truck to find the crash site.
A number of difficulties emerge, like local natives finding the crashed plane and looting it of all drugs, medicine and equipment supplies. It becomes next to impossible to get medical aid, as well as get more planes with trained doctors to come to their rescue due to political bureacracy. Three are critically injured.
This adventure tells the tale of attempts of others to get help for themselves and the locals. Soon you see the kindness of the locals. A nearby landing strip promises a chance to get the injured passengers to safety, but unfortunately they would have to land at night, and recent anti-drug operations laws strictly prohibit flying after dark. Again, after much red tape, you see locals start to come by with night torches and flashlights in order to assistn the pilot to land.
Eventually, there is a happy ending and you get brief exerpts of what happened to each doctor and student nurse on the trip. Truly a medical wonder and triumph of the human spirit. Jennifer Lopez has a small role as Rosie and looks very cultural.
