Dead Women in Lingerie
These girls have a secret... They they'll never live to tell.
In the Los Angeles garment district, a gorgeous young model has been found brutally murdered in the alley behind lingerie manufacturer Bartoli's (Jerry Orbach, Law & Order) show room. Fashion designer, Molly (Maura Tierney, ER) is outraged when it becomes apparent the investigation of the murder of her friend (Laura Herring) is not high on the police priority list. Intent on uncovering the murderer, Molly hires an aggressive and humorously off-beat private detective, Nick Marnes (John Romo). But matters get worse as, during his investigation, several other of Bartoli's lingerie models are found murdered. Molly and Nick get close - both to each other and to finding the identity of the murderer. And, when they get too close, the murderer must make Molly the next victim in this steamy and suspenseful mystery.

Maura Tierney but Nothing Else - c4th
I came across this movie in the zip catalogue and although its title sounded like a low budget slasher flick, the fact that it starred Maura Tierney caught my attention. A little research revealed this was Tierney’s first movie appearance aside from a couple of made-for-TV efforts. Jerry Orbach of Law and Order was also billed in a secondary role. I decided to give it a try.
Maura Tierney did not disappoint. She performed her role with a natural ease that clearly demonstrated competence at her chosen craft at age twenty six. What is most remarkable about her performance is that its quality is evident even in a production that very clearly has nothing else to offer. With perhaps the one exception of Jerry Orbach, the remainder of the cast did not belong in the same league and the screen writing and directing were equally incompetent.
From the opening scene it seemed evident I was watching a low budget production. The unimaginative delivery of lines from one of the film’s low paid (I would hope) talent failed miserably to provide the intended scare. This was followed shortly by the introduction of the main male character, played by John Romo, in a campy scene made even campier by its background music.
As the movie progressed, it focused more and more on its main duo which for a while made it watchable. In the absence of weaker cast members, the interactions between Tierney and Romo offered some mild entertainment.
Hold on. Just when I began to get into the movie, the writers demonstrated their inability to wrap up a story. Have you ever been cheesed off by someone revealing the end of a movie? Well how would you feel if the writers themselves did that very thing? “Oh you want a solution to the mystery? Here it is!” No unravelling, no clever detective work, no twist or turn, just “Oh, this guy did it.”
