Still mad as hell after 30 years.
Newscaster Howard Beale has a message for those who package reports of cute puppies, movie premieres and fender benders as hard news: "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore." Sidney Lumet directs Paddy Chayefsky's satire (an Academy Award-winning screenplay) about the things people do for love...and ratings. Three performers won Oscars. Best Actress Faye Dunaway is the TV exec guarding ratings like a tigress protecting cubs. Best Actor Peter Finch is Beale, whose airwave rants become a phenomenon. And William Holden, Robert Duvall and Best Supporting Actress Beatrice Straight add to the fierce vitality.

No kidding. The actors and actresses are phenomenal, and the screenplay... wow... the best screenplay I think I've ever seen/heard!!!
You have to watch this movie!
It is so incredibly relevant, even more so today than it was when it came out.
The best dramatic satire in movie history.
You Must Watch This!Mad as Hell, but still taking it - MovieLover5
I can't believe it's taken me 35 years to see this film. I've heard about it over the years but never got around to it. Well, it was worth the wait and as others have said, it's probably more relevant now than it was when it came out. Now that's a very sad thought.
You will not have difficulty seeing why Peter Finch won the Best Actor Academy Award, and certainly Faye Dunaway came across perfectly as the ratings at any price TV exec, and was deserving of the Best Actress award. The supporting cast is all excellent; William Holden as the too long in the game news exec, Robert Duvall as the grasping chief exec, Ned Beatty as the wacko chairman. The odd one is Beatrice Straight who won Best Female Supporting Actor; while very good in the role, she really had a pretty small role.
All in all, an excellent film for the ages. But just to prove Hollywood chases the almighty dollar (as though you did not know), this picture lost that year's Best Picture award to, wait for it, Rocky!!!! Aaggghhhh!Absurdly hilarious - egyptnation
One of the greatest works of satire in cinema - EVER! Not only is it haunting and absurdly hilarious, but it is still relevant in today's world. The parallels can be applied to the absurdity of the 24-hour cable news cycle and the zero-privacy world of celebrity internet "news". The motives and reactions of the secondary characters are absolutely side-splittingly funny; as is Ned Beatty's performance. A must see movie if only for him!
