I’m a longtime fan of the Damien franchise (it’s really true, just slower -vis Monsanto, ADM & Cargill) so when this 2006 redux arrived, I was prepared to view 20 mins & put it in the envelope. Also, I vowed to end it the very second there was a melting limb. To my surprise I did it to the end and was engaged the way through. Solid cast, good prod values, nice cine- in all, a good flic, but why? The new edge (cells etc...) did not change the story line or the result. I suspect there was an attempt to completely revive the franchise which, when this film flopped, died. Maybe a good thing. But if just one somebody took this as a queue to go back to the original three, well done.Good remake - Beak
I can't agree with the terrible ratings this movie is getting. If you liked the original at all, this is a pretty faithful rendition of the original.
The storyline is update a bit to include some current events and the special effects are up to snuff.
The performances are good except for the kid playing Damien. Its hard to find a good child actor but the kid does get a pass if you ask me.
There are so many pseudo-religious apocalyptic movies happening right now that the genre is getting a bit tired, but this kept my interest.
The Blu ray quality was first rate, 9/10.Boo! - PowaPete
Whatever it ultimately is, this convoluted film is partly redeemed by the participation of the main actor headlining a solid cast. Donning a more convincing American accent than Orlando Bloom in "Elizabethtown," he is captivating to watch as he slowly starts to question his own grip on reality while trying to help a troubled young man. Watts tackles a role that could have been largely one-dimensional with the fortitude we’ve come to expect of her. But as good as they both are in the middle of this chaotic mess, it’s a rising star who steals the show. Anyone who has seen this actor's previous work, notably his breakout performances is keenly aware that he’s an actor to watch.
