That's $$ and an hour and some of my life I won't get back - Barb1
I may have been too generous with the one star in this movie. I wasn't even expecting much, as I had read the book which was silly (I promised a friend I'd read the whole thing). But the movie was ten times worse, filled with every feel good new age cliche you could imagine. Nick Nolte looks continually uncomfortable, as if he knows even his acting skills couldn't deliver the awful dialogue. He might even have been afraid this dog of a movie might hurt his career, but fortunately so few people saw it, he got away with it. He must have been hurtin' for mortgage payments to make this silly movie, into which little sweat and less skill were invested.Thought provoking - MattyTyJoe
I rented this film expecting to get the standard, formulaic feel-good underdog story. Instead I was surprised to find much, much more. This fill is inspirational, to be sure, it just doesn't follow the same tired path to get to its conclusion. This film is well acted and has a deep, thought-provoking script. I highly recommend it.Truly inspiring! - wingfield
Peaceful Warrior is not for the Die Hard action addicts, there are no explosives, no snide wisecracks, absolutely no shooting nor insane car chases. Although there is a high speed motorcycle race that ends in tragedy which leads to the way to an insightful journey for gymnast Dan Millman.
This film is all about finding the true meaning of Dan's life with extensive soul searching. It's similar to what Mr. Miyagi did with Daniel in the Karate Kid, teaching the student how to overcome everyday obstacles using the mind and body as one.
There is quite a bit of phychology, theory, and philosophy involved, prompting Daniel to find a better road to his quest as the ulitimate champion. Despite the heartbreaking odds thrown at him by the doctors, he struggles not only physically but also mentally and emotionally to figure out what to do with his life.
It could easily have become the end of the road for him, instead he chose the most difficult path of recovery, absolutely determined to prove that he could rise again as a champion.
Overall, it is a moving story with hot, young talented actors and a familiar face, Nick Nolte. The gymnastic stunts alone are amazing to watch.
Bear in mind that the pace does slow down from time to time, making the movie seem rather long thus requiring the patience of a saint to get through it all. You will need an open mind and willing heart to watch Peaceful Warrior.
The author of this inspiring story is Dan Millman who has penned several more books and has an interesting online blog offering advice from time to time. Take a gander at his website: www.danmilman.com.
