Lemming
Alain and his wife Bénédicte arrange a dinner with Alain's middle-age boss, André, who is married to the mysterious Alice. The encounter does not leave the young couple's harmony unscathed. The discovery of a mysterious rodent's corpse blocking the waste pipe of their kitchen sink does nothing to help and foreshadows the confusion to come in their orderly life.

This is the type of movie that does not give you "closure". Whatever the opposite of closure is, that is this movie. It starts off more or less on an "ordinary" track (although you know, if you've seen "With a Friend Like Harry" (awesome movie) that Dominik Moll does not direct ordinary movies). But then it gets creepier and creepier, until you find yourself in some confused state of "huh".
It would be rude to spoil this movie with a plot synopsis. Suffice it to say that this movie proves that slow-paced, well-acted movies can cause as much fright and suspense as a fast-paced cheap slasher. More so.
Bottom line: if you liked "With a Friend Like Harry", you will like this movie, too.Good moments - rnhaas
There are some truly great moments in this movie, such as when the bad neighbour scene is reversed, or when the protagonist gets his toy back, but these do not make the film great. Most of the time, I was thinking, 'do people really behave like this?' The ending has a hammered feel, it makes the connection explicit, and then it makes it explicit again, and again. I don't like that. It also feels like it's ending three times before it ends. Unfortunate. I want to own that cabin.Compelling, Yet also A Letdown. - Jeefster
There was enough good acting to keep you watching closely, but then the second half of the movie kind of degrades into a surreal mess. Is he dreaming/imaging/hallucinating? Even reading numerous critic reviews left me with no more insight as to the nature of the ending then what my own guesswork would allow.
This would have been a superior film if the director would have stuck to the line of storytelling that was developed in the first half.
However....Just like all the critics agree to no end, Charlotte Rampling is her stunningly creepy best in this film. Her freaky eyes could melt an iceberg, and the movie would have been greatly enhanced had they kept her in the story for longer.
It was a little different, not run of the mill by any means, so if you want a full budget, well acted and crafted movie then by all means watch this.
Just be prepared to use your imagination a bit and to have to think about this a little bit longer after the credits have rolled. Hmmm. Thinking. Could be a good thing for a movie to get you to do this. On second thought, give it 4 stars.
