20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
The year is 1886, when New England's fishing harbours are the scene for a "creature of unknown origin" destroying ships at sea. It is the job of Professor Pierre Aronnax, a marine expert, and Ned Land, the iron willed sailor, to learn the truth of the "monster" roaming the seas. The great novelist, Jules Verne, described this perilous journey to the darkest depths of the sea with Captain Nemo aboard the Nautilus.

Way To Low Budget For a Classic Tale - JustLlikeThat
I don't mind the bad acting, or the deviation from the classic movie and book but for a Warner Brothers movie with Michael Cain to be this low budget with horrendous special effects and lame blue screen scenes, it is a shame. it will be below your expectations no matter how low they are after reading this.20000 leagues under the previous version - guelphite
Sorry to disagree with those who thought Michael Caine was a great captain Nemo. He is one of my favorite actors but this movie shows that a director can take an excellent actor and make him act poorly. Mr. Harpoon Man (also normally a good actor) is made to act like like a rabid dog and the young hero gives an entirely new definition to "milquetoast".
The star of the movie is the Nautilus itself, done in an imaginative and visually stunning Gothic/alternative technology way. Beautifully done. I am a sucker for this kind of movie and so overlook the dreadful script and awful acting. For those who like this sort of movie, still enjoyable.A good Yarn - Polestar
While this particular version of 20,000 Leagues is not exactly true to the Jules Verne novel, I found it to to be very enjoyable. I believe that Michael Caine delivered a great performance as the complex Captain Nemo - a man who even in the book, was so far ahead of his time that he could be considered mad. Even though this version introduced characters never in the book, and drastically changed others, this version of 20,000 Leagues makes for a fine evening's entertainment.
