Strangers with Candy: The Movie
Going to High School for the first time is always scary... especially the second time around.
Jerri Blank (Amy Sedaris), a 47-year-old ex-con, junkie whore, returns home after 32 years as a runaway. Jerri decides to turn her life around by picking it up exactly where she left off -- as a high school freshman. But the path to the prom is fraught with adolescent problems and temptations that plague all teenagers, but especially this middle-aged former boozer, user and loser. A prequel to the Comedy Central series of the same name.

If Disney Studios hired John Waters to do a spoof of “Never Been Kissed” and paid him with tequila shooters instead of money, the result might look something like this. Funny, rude and sure to offend, this film plays like a 90-minute SNL skit (back when SNL was actually funny). Amy Sedaris’ comic energy and malleable features save “Strangers with Candy” from becoming just another teen-age gross-out comedy and instead turns it into pure dysfunctional family entertainment.TWISTED AND FUN - zipBUDDY
Twisted, fun with some good laughs. Will definitely broaden your sense of humour. Surprised to see cameo performances with some great actors. Takes you back to your high school days and the odd yet familiar friends you knew when you were in those hap-hallowed-halls. Now those were the days.I didn't laugh once. - cathyottawa
Not because it was offensive or anything, just because it wasn't funny. I like a raunchy comedy when it's done well, but all the jokes fall flat here.
I guess this is for fans of the show? But the show can't possibly be this bad, because they managed to get alot of A list stars to take small roles in the film, including Mathew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Allison Janney.
Even the casting of Steven Colbert in a major role couldn't save this film.
This reminded me of when Saturday Night Live tries to stretch a two minute bit into a two hour film - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This didn't.
