L.A. Story (Special Edition)
Something funny is happening in L.A.
A wacky TV weatherman loses his job after taking off yet another weekend - after all, he figures, L.A. weather never changes, does it? And his personal life is a mess too, because his relationship with his long-time girlfriend has gone kaput. Everything looks pretty dismal, when he unexpectedly meets a British journalist on assignment in L.A. and falls instantly in love. He fears he has no chance with her, but while driving down a L.A. freeway, he suddenly realizes that one of the highway signs is trying to communicate with him. He stops to read the messages, takes a risk, and trusts in them to save his life.

This is a fantastic glimpse at the early 90's california culture. While heavily satarised, if you dial it back some, its based on truth. Silly and romantic, but also odd. Suspension of belief is important. Also fun to see an early Sarah Jessica Parker bounce around (post "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", pre "Sex and the City")
And I have to agree,
one of Steve Martins last funny movies (in recent memory)Fabulous and Whimsical - Erica
A wonderful whirlwind through a fantastical Los Angeles where freeway signs come to life and the elements conspire to make people fall in love.
OK, that made it sound really lame. It is a really great movie, about true love, and taking risks, and how on some crazy nights, Los Angeles really can be a magical place.
It also has that incomparable Steve Martin charm, which is always a huge draw for me.Love this movie! - Elshaneo
This is one of my favourite movies but it does require a particular sense of humour. It's also probably one of Steve Martin's last funny movies.
If you're going to get any version of this DVD, get this one - the deleted scenes are awesome including the ones with John Lithgow as Harry Zell - I can't believe they cut him out! There's also a great map looking at all the shooting locations - full of interesting info.
