Little Miss Sunshine
A family on the verge of a breakdown.
The motley six-member Hoover family treks from Albuquerque to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in Redondo Beach, California, to fulfill the deepest wish of 7-year-old Olive, an ordinary little girl with big dreams. Along the way the family must deal with crushed dreams, heartbreaks, and a broken-down VW bus, leading up to the surreal Little Miss Sunshine competition itself. On their travels through this bizarrely funny landscape, the Hoovers learn to trust and support each other along the path of life, no matter what the challenge.

Don't let the title fool you, this is not a cutesy family family film. I wouldn't call it a totally dark comedy, but it is somewhat. It takes an interesting look at a dysfunctional family. While a darker comedy, it still has a lighter side, and at the end it leaves you with a smile on your face. I highly recommend it!Little Miss Sunshine - bbryon1
When a pudgy, bespectacled seven-year-old, Olive voices her desire to take home the coveted Little Miss Sunshine crown at an upcoming beauty pageant, her wildly dysfunctional family sets out on an interstate road trip to ensure her a clear shot at realizing her dreams.A Dark Surprise - Zelda0415
Based on the hype, I thought Little Miss Sunshine would be feel-good-cutesy but it was hilarious and dark. I want to say that Alan Arkin stole it because he was as hysterical as he was obscene but the entire cast was phenomenal. Even the teenage boy who didn't speak through most of the movie. I love the commentary on the world of kiddie pageants too. By putting a beautiful normal girl in a pool of pageant girls, it brought reality into sharp relief. It was an interesting contrast of the disfunctional family versus the borderline macabre "ideal world" of kiddie pageants. I loved this movie.
