Every second chance begins with a first step.
Everyone deserves a chance to follow their dreams, but some people only get one shot. Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) is a rebel from the wrong side of Baltimore’s tracks. The only thing that stands between him and an unfulfilled life are his dreams of one day making it out of there. Nora (Jenna Dewan) is a privileged ballet dancer attending Baltimore’s ultra-elite Maryland School of the Arts—and the only thing standing in the way of her obviously brilliant future is finding a great dance partner for her senior showcase.
When trouble with the law lands Tyler with a community service gig at Maryland School of the Arts, he arrives as an angry outsider, until his skills as a gifted street dancer draw Nora’s attention. Now, as sparks fly between them, both on and off stage, Tyler realizes he has just one performance to prove that he can step up to a life far larger than he ever imagined.

Step up won't go down in movie history but it does a very good job at what it supposed to do which is entertain us. Some movies invest a whole lot of money and don't come close to this.
The storyline is as old as the world....good girl meets bad boy...bad boy becomes better...we think they won't make it but....well...you just have to watch it:)
They have since married so Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan have great chemistry in the acting and in the dancing sequences. If you want a Meryl Streep movie, this is not but it is very good entertaining!I don't agree with rotten tomatoes - d_tremblay
Even though rotten tomatoes seems to indicate this movie is rotten, I enjoyed watching it quite a bit and I am not a big fan of dancing neither. I think the way the guy was introduce to dancing through is community work was original and even though the ending and the plot is a little bit cliché, I would still recommend this movie to my friends.Great Dancing Movie! - uchc

If you like dancing...you will like this movie. The plot is cheesy and predictable, but you will be willing to watch it because every few minutes it is filled with some amazing dancing.
If you hate dancing...and hate watching people dance...you will hate this movie. The plot will not keep you interested.
