My Summer Story (a.k.a. It Runs in the Family)
The Hilarious Sequel to "A Christmas Story"!
Charles Grodin (Beethoven), Kieran Culkin (Father of the Bride), and Mary Steenburgen (Elf) star in this delightful sequel to A Christmas Story. For 10-year-old Ralphie Parker (Culkin), it would be a summer filled with adventure. Whether conducting a quest for the ultimate in spinning tops, watching his mother (Steenburgen) lead the gravy boat rebellion at the Orpheum Theater, or aiding the Old Man (Grodin) in his one-man war against their hillbilly neighbors, this was the summer Ralphie would always rememeber as the greatest of his life.

My Summer Story is a sequel to the classic, A Christmas Story. The movie takes place during the summer of young Ralphie Parker's life, but this time, his obsession is with tops.
Most of the characters return from the first film, all portrayed by different actors, aside from Miss Shields and of course adult narrator Ralph.
The movie was a nice attempt at a sequel, although, it would have been better if it had been filmed closer to the original and had the cast return, since they all did a fantastic job in A Christmas Story.
My Summer Story doesn't hold a candle to A Christmas Story, but is a good attempt and was an enjoyable watch.Awful - nxnw
Don't sully your memory of "A Christmas Story" by seeing this movie.
There is much that is wrong with it. The episodes have nothing to unify them and the story is aimless. The child actors are charmless and inferior, and then thre's poor Charles Grodin. Ordinarily, I would go with Grodin as a comic actor over Darren McGavin any day, but Charles Grodin playing Darren McGavin playing the Old Man must have been the low point of his career.
This is a bad movie.
