Idiocracy
From the Creator of "Beavis and Butt-Head" and "Office Space"

The premise of this movie sounds interesting, but the movie itself is awful. Luke Wilson is just an average guy who works for the military and he's cryogenically frozen for 500 years with another woman, who works as a prostitute. They wake up 500 years in the future and Wilson is now the smartest person in the world so he is charged with the responsibility of ending the world's hunger strike. You can see exactly what is being parodied and satirised at all times, and even when you agree with the parody, the humour misses its mark. I didn't find the jokes funny and the acting was just... awful. The only word for this movie is lame and it's a shame because it sounded so interesting!Braindeadiocracy - totacaillou1
An entire cast acting like idiots, but for Wilson who acts, well, like Wilson, and Rudolph, who acts like, well, a cynical hooker who we all know from the very beginning, will help save the day with her heart of gold and street smarts. So much could have been done with this concept. Instead, the premise is half-heartedly and cheaply explored, the writing is poor and the details inconsistent, the effects are cheesy, the stereotypes are tired and rampant and the characters' redemption is, in the end, unsatisfying. Works neither as a cautionary tale nor as a comedy. Don't waste your time.Sadly, I was disappointed - cameraobscura
I want to preface this all by saying that I really like Mike Judge. He has a way of writing subtle humour that is so funny and smart, it makes him one of my absolute favourite comedy writers out there today. King of the Hill & Office Space? Both absolutely brilliant, and hysterical.
I guess I went into this movie expecting it to be of the calibre of Office Space. Unfortunately, I was very much mistaken with that presumption.
I found this movie lacking in a few ways - Luke Wilson didn't seem to "fit" the role for me. I'm not too entirely sure why, but he just didn't. I also found the plot (which Mike Judge is otherwise so good at) rather lacking - it call seemed kind of thrown in together and stirred around. Something happened, then something else kind of happened, then it all ends. While the movie is a "dumb" movie, that doesn't mean it has to be dumbed down for the audience, and I feel that's how it was written.
Now, I don't mind my share of the low-brow humour when done in a funny way - I KNOW Judge can do so much more than masturbating and fart jokes - especially when they're used to carry an otherwise, poorly written plot.
One thing that bugged me the most though: the characters. His characters are so good (especially King of the Hill), and here they were completely one-dimensional. It's just a bunch of stuff happening to them, and them reacting (poorly might I add). There's no change on their part or development. I think that's what left me the most disappointed about all of this movie.
The idea of this movie is great and gives a ton of opportunity, and I expected with who was writing it, to be equally great. Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to my expectations.
