Living in Hollywood can make you famous. Dying in Hollywood can make you a legend.
A private detective (Adrien Brody) investigates the mysterious 1959 death of George Reeves (Ben Affleck), star of the 1950s TV series Superman. Although the death was listed as a suicide, several clues lead the detective to believe the actor was murdered. Reeves' fiancé emerges as a possible suspect, while his affair with Toni Mannix, the wife of a studio executive, brings forth questions that need answers.

Holloywoodland runs two parallel stories- the career and death of George (Superman) Reeves, and the private investigator who casts doubts over the circumstances of Reeve's death. In the process, we get a glimpse of the Hollywood of the 50s. Beautifully shot and acted, and if you watched TV in the 50s and 60s, the Superman references will strike a chord. Not for all tastes, but definitely quality entertainment.Great acting, but too long - Antoinette
I gave this movie 3 stars solely based on the fact that the acting was all-round first rate and the look and feel of the movie was true to its time. Ben Affleck in particular does a superb job of portraying a man who was doomed to mediocrity as an actor, coming so close to the fame he so desperately craved yet never being able to grasp it.
This movie shows its audience 3 scenarios of what may have possibly happened the night that George Reeves was found dead, interspersed with scenes from his life.
I found the movie a little disappointing in that first off it was just too long. The going back and forth between his life and the different scenarios of his death made me dizzy and confused and by the time the third scenario came along I couldn't care less how he died, I just wanted it to end. The other thing I didn't particularly care for was the importance that was given to Adrien Brody's character, the detective Louis Simo. He just wasn't interesting enough to have so much screen time. I would have preferred more George Reeves and no detective Simo.Slowwwwwwwww - Parisite
This movie moved along at the pace of a snail. It seemed like 3/4 of the movie was just filler. I guess you really have to be in to the story of this murder. I kept leaving to do something else coming back and not feeling like I had missed anything. Decent acting, but mostly it was just a bore.
