Great - Wentai

An amazing film, it's even better than one would expect. For now I will only rate the movie poster (reproduced here as the DVD cover thingy):

The girl is very beautiful, but the blood trickling down her face ruins her natural beauty. Her pale skin contrasts nicely with the flowery headress and the black background. Her eyes are open...is she alive or dead?

That concludes my review of the movie poster.

De Palma most overrated director in the world - ZombieInvasion

Proving definitively that De Palma is the most overrated director in the world, is "The Black Dahlia". Based a great novel, by the icon of hardboiled crime fiction, James Ellroy, it is hard to believe that De Palma managed to mess this up so much. Ellroy also wrote "LA Confidential", and one only needs to compare the masteful adaption of that movie to the "Black Dahlia" to understand how wrong he got it.

The acting is rather flat, and often miscast, but where the movie really goes off the rails, is in its pace and narrative cohesion. The plot is barely understandable and tedious for 2 hours, before it is exposited by various villains at the end of the movie, by this point you are too bored to care. Even De Palmas trade mark flashy camera work and editing, feels kinda gimmicky at best. Basically, this movie is a failure on almost all levels, and should be severly derided, because he was working with great source material.

Really? THE Brian De Palma Directed this Farce??!! - Cogz

WOW!!!!! There goes 2 hours of my life that I WILL NEVER GET BACK!!!! OMG!!! What a horrendous experience, trying to get through the entire movie! I was so pissed that the guy who directed such classics like "Scarface," "The Untouchables," "Carlito's Way," would FUDGED UP like this!! The marketing of this movie is sooooooooo deceiving 'coz guess what, this movie's not about finding who killed the Black Dahlia and the investigation. No! I got duped!! Generally, I'm not opposed to movies having several subplots AS LONG AS there's a common ground and interconnectivity. Sadly, De Palma wasn't able to connect these to make the movie whole. As a result, everything's out of focus, it's all over the place; the actors clearly can't relate to their roles and what they're supposed to do. Even 2-time Oscar winner, Hilary Swank, failed to deliver even the most mundane dialogue!!

POOR, POOR JOB, Brian De Palma!!
