School for Scoundrels

Nice guys graduate last.
Incomparable director Todd Phillips tells the hilarious story of Roger, a dejected traffic cop who enrolls in "confidence building" class. Roger is tired of being walked all over and wants to win the affection of Amanda, the girl he loves. Roger and his classmates get much more than they bargained for when their domineering professor exhibits some unusual teaching methods and sets his own sights on Amanda. Suddenly, the mild-mannered geek squad must go from zeroes to heroes in order to stop being pushed around and win the girl back.

Well if you have a keen eye for crappy movies this may have rang a bell, but its not the worst movie it was pretty decent. Nothing original just exceeded my expectations. So if you like movies that are just alright then i guess this one will do the trick. Jon Heder can;t act btw.Scoundrels is Just Okay - TheShamus
I saw the previews for this movie, and I thought it looked pretty interesting. The ZIP reviewers were pretty positive on this one -- so I balked at the extremely low "Rotten Tomatoes" rating, and ZIPPED it up. I'm sorry to say, I have to agree more with the Tomatoes rating on this one.
Director, Todd Phillips (Old School, Starsky and Hutch), brings us the story of a guy who teaches "timid" men to be REAL men at a secret school (referred by other men who had the same condition). Although highly improbable, it's a story with definite comedic potential.
The real stumbling block for me was how unnecessarily implausible the movie was. Actor, Jon Heder, reprises a very similar character to his Napoleon Dynamite lead. Heder falls for a girl who takes an unrealistic interest his character (Heder faints a lot, and can't look at people).
The "Micheal Clark Duncan" character could have been more interesting ... but instead, it is suggested he will sodomize the students (if given the opportunity). The movie starts to get way out of hand ... building on top of a shaky premise. The humour misses as much as it "hits".
Suprisingly, this movie is very clean. There was very little swearing, no nudity (aside from a breast drawn on a chalk board) -- and the comedy is less "slapstick" than the typical "Todd Phillips" offerings. The Ben Stiller character appears to be an "add on" to the movie ... and the "motives" behind the characters are totally unrealistic (why do the students dress up as cops to work against Heder's character)?
Maybe Phillips would have been better to just shoot for the comedy kitchen sink instead of trying to make this comedy even remotely realistic.
This is not a horrible movie ... if there is nothing else to watch, this is okay. Otherwise, there are plenty of better comedies.

In a world full of really moronic teeny bopper movies, thank the heavens we have Billy Bob Thorton. Here in "School For Scoundrels", he is as hilarious as ever!
Roger is a loser living in New York City. He has a terrible job, gets no respect from his co-workers, and has never dated a woman. Secretly, he has a crush on his neighbor Amanda, but is so shy, he can't get up the nerve to ask her out. When his friend recommends him to Dr. P (played fabulously by Billy Bob in his trademark type role), his life seems to be finally turning around. However, Dr. P has a secret agenda up his sleeve.
Billy Bob does a great job in this film, as well as all the other mostly unknown actors. The story was funny and fun. It's nice to see comedy films geared towards the "older" crowd. Had a few twists and turns I didn't see coming. Very enjoyable film! Overall, I give this film an 8/10.
If you enjoy a good comedy that's not all about fart jokes or satire (as all "comedies" seem to be these days), check it out! I'm sure you will enjoy it!
