The Best Movie Ever - TheDuke
This is by far my favorite movie of all time. Bruce Campbell shines as a smooth talking, time traveling rouge who plays by his own rules and doesn't care what anyone else thinks about it. This does come at the expense of others, but Bruce Campbells character takes it all in stride, proving that it you have the right attitude everything will turn out in the end.Silly, but fun! - Vampenguin
Being a huge fan of the Evil Dead franchise, and a huge Bruce Campbell fan in general, I knew I was going to enjoy this. It totally abandons the horror aspect of the first 2, but is still A lot of fun.
The plot is completely off-the-wall, and I loved it. It picks up where ED2 leaves off, with Ash transported to the Middle Ages. He has to find the Necronomicon in order to return to his own time, but inadvertently unleashes Hell upon the world...literally. Great plot, kept me absorbed and enthralled from beginning to end.
Ash has got to be one of the greatest characters ever put on film. He really comes into his own in this one, spouting more one-liners than ever. Bruce Campbell is a very underrated actor who really deserves more recognition. The rest of the cast are pretty good as well.
Though it's nothing like it's predecessors, this is a great film. Sure it's kind of silly, but it knows what it is and has fun with it.

Army of Darkness is an oddly natural progression for the series. While Evil Dead was straight out horror, Evil Dead II sought to mix horror with comedy. Army of Darkness almost leaves the horror behind, to be a darkly comedic action/adventure film, harkening back to the days of Jason & the Argonauts, and other such films of the 1960's, with a heavy dose of the Three Stooges for good measure.
What makes AoD truly great though is the full development of Ash. This is the Ash that makes kids line up hours to meet Bruce Campbell, and its Ash that makes the movie as fun as it is, delivering some of the best lines in movie history.
Normally directors cuts of horror films mean more gore, more violence and generally a better movie. Not so with AoD. Basically the director's cut pads out the running time with some unnecessary scenes, changes one or two of the great lines, and switches to the original ending, which would have set up a part 4 nicely, but isn't as satisfying as the Theatrical ending. Watch the Director's cut once, but stick with the Theatrical in the long run. It's far better.
