Unrated Director's Cut
Some Curses Cannot Be Broken
Hearing that her sister Karen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has had an accident in Japan, a young woman named Aubrey (Amber Tamblyn) flies to Tokyo to see how she can help. She's soon exposed to the same mysterious curse that afflicted Karen. The supernatural force, which fills a person with rage before spreading to its next victim, brings together a group of previously unrelated people who attempt to unlock its secret to save their lives.

I tend to be skeptical of most horror movies these days, and even more skeptical about sequels. But this one is refreshing, in that I didn't find myself rolling my eyes and wondering how much longer until it was over.
This movie isn't about jumps and scares, more about the story behind the ghost(s) from the first movie. If you're looking for a shocker, this isn't it. I like that it has a bit of thought behind it, and that there are a few separate stories going on.
Amber Tamblyn and Arielle Kebbel are both believable in their roles and are great young actresses.
Overall I would say this was worth watching, and would have given it another 1/2 star if I could have.Grudge 2 - AppsScraps
The medicore machine that is movie-making in Hollywood these days spewed out this latest attempt to cash in on the Asian supernatural horrors genre of Kairo, Ju-On, etc. Sadly, this film is a wreck from the outset as it tries to follow three storylines: three Tokyo school girls who return to the infamous haunted house; the adventures of the sister of the Karen Davis character of Grudge one (played by Sarah Michelle Geller); and a family in a flat in Chicago. While Takashi Shimizu (of the original film and the US remake) directs again giving the film its trademark creepy feel, the plot just doesn't hold up. I couldn't understand (let alone care) why our freaky little ghost boy and his mother end up in Chicago. Were they keen on ordering deep dish pizza? Time to put this series of films to bed me thinks. My rating 4 out of 10.Isn't this supposed to be scary? - Filmgal
The Grudge 2 is a bland follow-up which offers few - if any - scares.
The story picks up where the first Grudge film left off: Karen (Gellar) is in the hospital after losing her mind following the events of the first film. Her sister Aubrey (Tamblyn) flies to Tokyo to bring Karen home and discovers for herself the extent of the curse.
Various subplots are interwoven through the course of the film which are mostly riddled with poor acting, less than scary visual effects, and a lack of cohesiveness.
The acting is wooden- especially on the part of Tamblyn who herself blends into the blandness of the story. Jennifer Beals barely registers any screen time, which is a shame. Lots of stereotypes including Japanese schoolgirls, myserious neighbours, and a predictable plot.
The thrills are recyled from the first film under the filmmaker's assumption that if it worked the first time, it will work again.
Skip this sequel and watch the first film again (which isn't that great to begin with, let alone warrant a sequel). Much like The Ring 2, this film fails to live up to its predecessor. For real horror, try The Ring, or the original Japanese versions Ringu and Ju-On.
