Man of the Year
Acerbic performer Tom Dobbs (Robin Williams) has made his career out of skewering politicians and speaking the mind of the exasperated nation on his talk show. He cracked scathing jokes at a fractured system night after night... until he came up with a really funny idea: why not run for president, himself.

This was so good and tailor made for Robin Williams! How they pulled off beliabled with this but they did. The best part was the funny, wow! the acting was incredible from the supporting cast which is so star studded how can you call it that? I'm worried that folks are seeing Robin and losing faith and trust. I really hope that he hits one out of the park and this should have been it!A very underrated movie with a great cast - Calzephyr
To be honest, I thought this was going to be a very dumb movie. Instead, it was witty, intelligent and funny along the way. It would be incorrect to call to solely a thriller or comedy. It's a little bit of everything.
It is very much a reflection of contemporary society - the filmmakers take two questions - "What happens if one of these news comedians wins?", "What if e-voting is not all it's cracked up to be?" and spin it into an interesting movie.
Many reviewers said it wasn't worth the watch, but I don't think they are as up to date on current events. For example, out of the major scandals from a few years ago, women turned out to be the whistleblowers; Eleanor is a nod to this trend. She finds her reputation tarnished and reaches out to Tom Dobbs, who believes her. It's true that they form a romance, but it's not the whole movie.
Next, the movie had a great balance between alternating in a documentary "behind the scenes" style with regular acting. This made the movie visually interesting and energetic - Williams was great here. Christopher Walken was excellent as his mentor Jack Menken (perhaps a nod to the great newspaperman HL Mencken) and funny with his dry demeanor and caustic humour.
I believe one of the other reviewers thought the movie would be about what would happen if Dobbs wins, but I don't think the movie could reach the logical end of Dobbs actually being in office. Dobbs is presented with a fateful choice, and there's a little suspense in play around that choice. Eventually Dobbs shows that he's a good honest man who won't compromise his ethics.Pretty good - Rashan
I think this movie is better than some of the other reviewers would have you believe. I'm not sure what they were expecting, or what they were looking for but this movie was really quite good.
It's smart, funny and has all the fixtures of a good movie. Two converging plot lines to that dimension, meaning, and a good perspective to societies roll in politics.
If you like Robin Williams stand up, then this movie will work for you too. Check it out.
