Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing & Charm School
When destiny leads, love follows.
Dance is a very powerful drug, if embraced judiciously; to reap its rewards, one must shoulder its challenges with intrepid countenance. Frank Keene, a grieving baker in a near catatonic state, happens on a car accident. The loquacious and insightful victim, Steve Mills, is on his way to an appointment in Pasadena with a years-ago acquaintance; he asks Frank to go in his place. It's a dance class. Frank goes, to find Steve's friend. The story moves back and forth among Steve's childhood, the scene of the accident, and the aftermath of Frank's first Lindy hop. Black eyes, group therapy, loneliness, boys being boys, roads not taken, and saying good-bye color the story.

A lot of the ingredients of this film were right-the actors, plot, some ballroom dancing although not professional, but it just didn't soar. There was too much predictability for me to sustain the suspense required for 106 minutes. The happy ending was quite expected. The soundtrack is good and it is always a pleasure to hear those ballroom bands.Colour your life in joyous shades of brilliant magenta that you never knew existed... - blissful_muse07
This movie was very touching in alot of different ways. It showed how the ending of one person's life can actually be the beginning for someone else. Great cast, especially Robert Carlyle. He really shows that he can play just about any role and make it his own.Waste of time - Tulles
I normally love these kind of movies. Ones that center around dance schools and ones with flash backs are even better. But this whole movie was a load of malarkie! Such a waste of time. I fast forwarded through most of it and didn't even watch the last 15 minutes b/c I didn't care. I got the answers I wanted and it was enough. If you really must know watch the first fifteen minutes of the movie and then come back and read the last sentence here..........
Steve (John Goodman) dies in the ambulance, Lisa never shows up to the school but Frank tracks her down and she's a bitter old cat lady with nothing going for her.
