The Cheyenne Social Club / FireCreek (Double Feature)
They can be tough as leather. Or as down-home as any pair of good ol' boys. Either way, there's a sense of warm respect between the two stars. The off-camera friendship of James Stewart and Henry Fonda goes back to their days as struggling actors and roommates.
The Cheyenne Social Club (1970, 102 mins, Side A)
This film casts them as saddle-weary Texans who, surprised to find they've inherited a Wyoming bawdy house, feel honor-bound to defend it against a gun-wielding gang. Gene Kelly produces and directs this mix of fun and Western action.
FireCreek (1967, 104 mins, Side B)
Next comes a firestorm of character-driven excitement in FireCreek. Fonda plays an outlaw preying on small towns, and Stewart is the jittery, $2-a-month part-time lawman who must find the courage to stop him. This will be some showdown!

Cheyenne is Entertainment, Firecreek a waste of time - Radio_Jane
The Cheyenne Social Club gets lampooned on a regular basis. I will admit that for the two legendary actors it stars, it is not exactly a worthy vehicle. However, I find it funny and rather enjoyable. Stewart and Fonda have a great rapport that clearly shows their deep friendship offstage, and even though it was a dificult shoot for both actors (Stewart was mourning the loss of his stepson in Vietnam and Fonda had health problems), their is an easy and gentle humour. It's about a bawdy house, but the humour is clean. Like I said before, it isnt the highest art, but an enjoyable way to spend a rainy afternoon. Firecreek doesn't deserve nearly as much praise. I suppose hard core western movie fans will enjoy it, but i could not get in to it alone. I fully admit that I preffered Fonda and Stewart as young romantic leads in movies such as the Lady Eve(Fonda) and The Philadelphia Story (Stewart), and in their older years I really wish they had done something other than westerns more often. Firecreeck is basic abc western, with no suspense and nothing to look forward to, So, all the stars in this rating go toe cheyenne.
