The Pee-Wee Herman Show
Live From the Sunset Strip's Roxy Theatre
Not quite a children's show, The Pee-Wee Herman Show is slyly subversive, a little bit naughty and always outrageous. It premiered as a midnight show on February 7th 1981 at The Groundlings Theater in Hollywood and moved to the famed Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip where it was filmed as part of HBO's new series On Location. Conceived as an homage to children's television programs of the 1950s and '60s, this live stage production features original music, puppets, a cartoon, a short educational film and Pee-wee's hilarious live-action friends: Kap'n Karl (Phil Hartman), Miss Yvonne (Lynne Stewart), Jambi the Genie (John Paragon), Mailman Mike (John Moody), Hermit Hattie (Edie McClurg)... and many more!!!

Originally an HBO special, this is pretty much the pilot episode for Pee Wee's Playhouse. Though the audience is clearly all adults, the material is directed at kids... He continuously says "boys and girls lets do this or that". However there are a few parts that are inappropriate for kids. Comments about looking up girls' dresses and putting mirrors on his shoes to look up dresses. And people were surprised that he was arrested for lewd behavior? But the juvenile antics and toys and cast are there. There is very little here to see unless you are a huge Pee Wee fan.
