Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus
From the Director of "Secretary"
From the window of her immaculate New York apartment, lonely housewife Diane Arbus (Kidman) locks eyes with a masked figure on the street – a mysterious new neighbor (Downey, Jr.) whose penetrating gaze strips the veneer off her tidy reality. Mysteriously drawn to the man that intrigues her and determined to take his photograph, Diane ventures to his apartment and embarks on a journey that will unlock her deepest secrets, awaken her remarkable artistic genius, and launches Diane on her path to becoming the artist she is meant to be.

A surprisingly good watch, if you can suspend disbelief for a little while - camillei
I went into this film thinking that Nicole Kidman is a little overrated. She has been in so many films, and she has often portrayed a certain type of character, so when you've seen enough of her movies you start to think she isn't really acting, she's just playing "Nicole Kidman". All considered, I did think her performance in 'Fur' was good, if a bit run-of-the-mill for her.
The characters and stories the filmmakers were inspired to create were very interesting. I thought Robert Downey Jr.'s makeup or costume (however you want to call a full-body fur suit) was a bit comical at first. Maybe the hair was too curly and pretty-looking? I don't really know. But once I got used to watching him I thought he was fascinating.See It - criticalx
Almost didn't watch it because of the kinky title, but I'm so glad I did. It is an Alice in wonderland take of a spiritual journey of a photographer's coming out, or rather coming into herself. Dignified performances are top notch on all sides, very intriguing. A new director added to my must see more list.irritating soundtrack - oscar_reed
Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr. are fantastic in this unusual movie. The direction, costumes, cinematography are great as well.
Much of the movie is in serious danger of being ruined by an obtrusive, anachronistic score. I would have preferred an all-Morton Feldman soundtrack or just about anything to the cheesy Carter Burwell effort.
