I agree with the other reviewers: how could such a movie do so bad considering all the brilliant stars it gathered... It was a little overcrowded at that. And it is definitely more about the life and people in the hotel at the moment of the shooting, hence their lives before that day... and it is not interesting...
The Academy and I really don't agree on what is good and what isn't...polarizing - vfxguy
Well, other reviewers have said you either love it or hate it.
I liken it to jazz. High-end jazz is music for musicians, not music for the people. Musicians study jazz to stretch their wings and really see how far they can go. In that way, I believe Bobby is a film for actors, not necessarily for the audience.
The number of characters, and passing between them, can be overwhelming. But the number of familiar faces makes it easier, and the ending gives a payoff worth sticking around for. I'm glad I did.Good however could have been great - GeeOff316
The legacy of Robert Kennedy could have been more effectively portrayed in a film that the audience could tell WANTED to look important, but just fails to connect. Estevez tells a story through several, perhaps too many, stories of individuals and couples who were present in the Ambassador Hotel on the day Robert Kennedy was assassinated. By stretching the character examination too thin, the film loses its strength and conviction. You want more of why Kennedy means so much to them, more than just them saying so. Joshua Jackson stands out amongst a colossally large cast of Hollywood actors. This historic event is a great topic for a film, and it does touch some sentimental points however, like the life of RFK, it leaves its audience feeling empty for what could have been.
