A Slight Case of Murder
Homicide. Seduction. Betrayal. The classics never go out of style.
Laura Penney accidentally fell in her apartment and died. Or perhaps she was pushed. Just a little. Either way, on-air film critic Terry Thorpe figures he's Suspect #1 because he was there. But maybe he's seen enough crime movies to bamboozle the cops.
Two-time Emmy Award winner William H. Macy plays Thorpe in this delicious caper based on a novel by bestselling thriller writer Donald E. Westlake. With seat-of-the-pants desperation, Thorpe skims the hurdles of his perfect crime. Among the hurdles: a detective (Adam Arkin) eager to slip his screenplay to the critic, a girlfriend (Desperate Housewives' Felicity Huffman) with gnawing suspicions and a private investigator (James Cromwell) who puts the squeeze on for $35K. Thorpe should get every acting honor in the world if he pulls it off. Or maybe he'll just get 30 to life.

If you like your murder movie with a laugh this is the film for you.
William H.Macy, Alan Arkin and the rest of the cast are great.
This is the story of a film reviewer whose girlfriend has an accident which looks like murder, and instead of calling the police to report it, because his other girlfriend (Felicity Huffman) may find out,he comes up with fantastic plots and far fetched stories which he thinks the police will believe. He is basically an idiot who thinks he's infallible.
The truth will come out eventually, but before that happens, he does everything in his power to send the detectives in the wrong direction.
I laughed out loud at the bank robbery scene, it was so insane.
I also liked the times he spoke to the camera and told the viewers what he was thinking. Very funny.
Good , good movie.Humorous Murder Mystery Farce - c4th
A Slight Case of Murder is a delightful adaptation of a Donald Westlake short story called A Travesty. William H. Macy co-wrote the teleplay and starred as the main character in this quirky little situational comedy about a cover up gone wrong.
Film critic Terry Thorpe uses his knowledge of movie plots to cover up his involvement in the death of one of his two girlfriends. Her death was actually accidental but at the time it seems easier to cover up his presence than convince authorities of his innocence. He probably would have pulled it off without a hitch if a blackmailing PI had not seen him enter the apartment during his surveillance. Sexual escapades with the chief investigator’s wife along with many setbacks and obstacles provide a vehicle for comedic situations and some very humorous dialogue. Some of the most humorous one-liners come from the Macy character as he turns and speaks directly to the camera.
If you are looking for some clean light humour in the form of a murder mystery farce, A Slight Case of Murder starring Macy, Felicity Huffman, James Cromwell, Adam Arkin, and Julia Campbell is an excellent choice.
