Mozart and the Whale
They don't fit in. Except together.
A dramatic-comedy, inspired by the lives of two people with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism, whose emotional dysfunctions threaten to sabotage their budding romance. Donald is a good-natured but hapless taxi driver with a love of birds and a superhuman knack for numbers. Like many AS sufferers, he likes patterns and routines. But when the beautiful but complicated Isabel joins the autism support group he leads, his life - and his heart - are turned upside down.

An Unusual Love Story - Xenon62
What we have here is a fairly pedestrian romantic comedy-drama. What set this one apart is that the two main characters both have Asperger's Syndrome (a mild form of autism). In most romance stories, there are obstacles to overcome... here, the obstacles are each other, and their own selves. While the plot itself is fairly straightforward, the movie should be praised for its accurate portrayal of Asperger's and the challenges faced by people who have this condition. It also avoids the "cookie cutter" approach by presenting, via supporting characters, different people with different levels of functioning (our two protagonists skewing towards the "more functional" end of the spectrum). Those of us who (like me) have Asperger's Syndrome will identify with the characters. Sadly, those who don't have AS might not, and see this film as little more than a love story with quirky leads.Inspiring - jivejunkie
One of the best love stories I have seen in a long time. Plenty of tension with the struggles of the two main charactars and gives the viewer a lot of insight to understand what people suffering these handicaps go through and what they can be capable of. The scenes with the birds were beautiful. It's something - Squib
Mozart and The Whale provides a nice tidy look at a couple struggling with Autism and Asperger's. Both protagonists play their role quite well, but I'm left wanting something more 'real' feeling. As high-functioning autistic people, their meltdowns seem predictable and somewhat contrived. An above average acting job in a film that could have done more than it did. It is worth seeing, but only once. I really feel no lasting impression was made...but...it's something
