Children of Men
The Year 2027:
The Last Days of the Human Race
No Child Has Been Born for 18 Years
He Must Protect Our Only Hope
No children. No future. No hope.
In the year 2027, eighteen years since the last baby was born, disillusioned Theo (Clive Owen) becomes an unlikely champion of the human race when he is asked by his former lover (Julianne Moore) to escort a young pregnant woman out of the country as quickly as possible. In this thrilling race against time, Theo will risk everything to deliver the miracle the whole world has been waiting for. Co-starring Michael Caine, filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón's Children Of Men is the powerful film that Pete Hammond of Maxim calls "magnificent...a unique and totally original vision."
Based on the best-selling novel by P.D. James.

This apocalyptic thriller portrays a Great Britain of 2027 which is rapidly losing population (because of mass infertility); at the same time, its government has outlawed immigration. Historically, immigration is generally encouraged where population is low or in decline--which means that this film is based on some pretty flawed logic. Nevertheless, it is this paradox which raises the stakes incredibly and drives the otherwise well-considered plot. So, logic errors aside, the resulting story is a gripping and thought-provoking--if somewhat bleak--ride into a ruined future.shoukd have been a big hit - JOE52
This movie was not talked very much about and I don't know why. This is a very good movie. This is the kind of movie that set place in a near future. So, it's not like flying war machine futuristic movie. It's a very realistic future movie. I really recommend this movie to anyone.
C'est un excellent film sur le futur mais un futur assez rapproché pour que ce soit realiste et eppeurant.Gripping, gritty and satisfying - Cine_Fan
This is an extraordinary film, which grabbed my attention and kept me fully engaged.
It’s been called an action film, and a sci-fi flick, but I thought it rose above generic classification. Children of Men is loosely based on a novel by British writer P.D. James, but it owes a lot to the Greek myth of Persephone. Both stories are placed in a barren world which needs salvation. The only hope is the maiden who embodies fertility, but she has been abducted and spirited away to hell. A hero tries to rescue her to save humanity.
The dystopian future depicted in the film was only a few degrees removed from our own (the most obvious connection being the central role of a Department of Homeland Security) which makes it all the more discomforting. The portrayal of authoritarian government, the persecution of immigrants and the huge disparities between rich and disadvantaged are especially poignant.
The scenes of violence and chaos are done with a new degree of realism and at times you really get a sense that you are following them traveling through hell on earth. Long, hand held shots are used with particular skill to maintain the sense of being there amidst the action.
Good story, great cast and production make this a skilfully done and worthy piece of cinema.
