The History Boys
History. It's just one bloody thing after another.
The story of an unruly class of bright, funny history students in pursuit of an undergraduate place at Oxford or Cambridge. Bounced between their maverick English master, a young and shrewd teacher hired to up their test scores, a grossly out-numbered history teacher, and a headmaster obsessed with results, the boys attempt to pass.
Based on the hit play.

This is clearly not an action movie. This is a real intellectual movie. The hard part of this movie is that it's not our culture and there is a lot of cultural stuff in the movie. Bt it's a very distintive and very unique in it's kind movie. I really recommend this mvie.
C'est un tres bon film; tres intellectuel. Beaucoup beaucoup de mots et tres peu de devellopement. mais je le recommande a tous pour comprendre la culture anglaise. When words are only a start - canadanewsman
The History Boys is an amazing adaptation of a Tony award winning play in a style that only a British production can seem to pull off.
Definitely a non-linear film that pulls off amazing cast interaction and spiced with wonderful literary and historical references.
It also tells us about our own faults.

Other reviewers have explained the history of the play, the players and their performances and why all were spot-on, so let’s talk about the film.
It was shot in thirty days. Now I don't know how much time the writer spent adapting the stage play but his screenplay is simply outstanding. Add to this the direction … as one of the young actors explained, they had to unlearn most of their stage mannerisms to accomodate the new medium. By and large they hugely succeeded. Absolute kudos to the cast and equally to the man who instructed and inspired them.
This is a film of vignettes, small excerpts of perfection. At first I was concerned the film was suffering from discontinuity but came to realize there was no demanding plot per se. Instead we are taken on a journey of love and caring in all its better aspects and with barely a hint of censor. Add to this the incredible intelligence of the dialogue and the majesty of the words…seldom have I enjoyed a journey so much.
Yes, it is rife with sentiment and unrealistic in resolution. The epilogue I could have done without. But this is small potatoes compared to this glorious story of the human spirit in all its youthful insecurities and exuberance interlaced with the inevitable adult complexities and consequences.
