Dancing Lady
Gable, Crawford and Astaire: Heigh ho, the gang's all here!
A Broadway chorine (Joan Crawford) needs a little help with her hoofing, so her dance director (Clark Gable) gets an idea. A good idea. "Do you feel like going through that opening number with Mr. Astaire?" And Fred Astaire, making his screen debut, shows the lady how it's done.
Three film icons give the backstage musical a jolt of superstar electricity in a song-, dance-, and romance-filled extravaganza featuring support by Nelson Eddy, Robert Benchley and The Three Stooges and tunes by Rodgers and Hart, Burton Lane, Dorothy Fields and more musical greats. Gable and Crawford had such stellar chemistry that MGM teamed them for eight movies. Here, as always, they have street-smart glamour and charisma to burn. Add Astaire's sophistication and Dancing Lady can take a well-deserved bow.

Ah, The Unbridled '30's: Such Fun And Frivolity! - bwod
Here is a true classical, musical film with big name stars and production values, that will both entertain and educate. As the world was in economic ruin at the time (sound familiar?), MGM Studios managed to gloss over the "Great Depression", and use it as a back-drop for one of its "swell" and "gay" movies. I loved it!
Sure it may seem dated and overly optimistic, but where else are you going to find such a fine cast all in one film? Go on, don't be a "chump"! Give it a shot. I guarantee you won't be dissapointed. I give it two thumbs up.Another MGM Tour De Force - Tinseltown_Tess
Lavish doesn't even begin to describe this MGM spectacular. Between the big name stars and well produced dance numbers, there's very little to complain about. The script, though predictable, is tight and well written, and all players deliver A + performances. The one glaring problem I found was the love triangle between Tone,Crawford and Gable. It doesn't in any way shape or form make good sense, but it's worth sitting through just to see the end musical number.
