This documentary, featuring talking heads and snippets of "queer" films, is pretty conventional in its tone and presentation. While the expertise and information is solid, I had expected a more provocative or evocative style from such creatively fertile ground.Average - Wentai
This was an average film that entertained, and was a solid documentary. Recommended for film students and those studying the era or subject matter at hand.
Still it was interesting to see how in the old days it had to be all hidden subtext, while now it's open and uncensored. Times they are a changin.Good into to Queer cinema - chrissieb
This doc explores the origins and development of New Queer cinema. It does so through interviews with groundbreaking filmmakers, and queer actors as activists. While it is a pretty standard approach to the documentary style (head on interviews mixed with clips) the people they talk to add both a stylistic/political and a personal interpretation of the movement and its films. It is both passionate as well as light-hearted at times as actors and ordinary people discuss they're personal experiences being queer and exploring the emerging cinema and its influences.
