Color Me Kubrick
John Malkovich is NOT Stanley Kubrick. The true...ish story of the world's biggest liar.
John Malkovich gives a hilarious tour-de-force as Alan Conway, a conman who successfully passed himself off as the famed and notoriously reclusive director, Stanley Kubrick, for the last decade or so of the filmmaker's life, despite knowing very little about Kubrick. It'd be a farce of the highest order if it weren't somehow based on a "true-ish" story.

Being Stanley kubrick - Iwantcolumbia
This film had so much potential given the plot but fell way short of my expectations. In the end the film was merely a display of Malkovich's talent as an actor to portray Kubrick in so many ways "from sedated homosexual to Woody Allenish_. He seems to have had more fun making the film then people will have watching it as it is scene after scene of random schemes to obtain free drinks and hotel stays with no overall push to move whatever plot there is forward. Kubrick fans will notice the movie was made in his style from camera angles and movement and even the music used in Clockwork orange. Apart from those Kubrick references and Malcovic's humorous absurdities, this movie is worth a try for some, but keep it at the bottom of your ziplist.Pointless - WhoaNelly
Usually a biopic attempts to offer some kinds of insights about the human condition, or at least the subject of the biography. Failing that, it needs to be a madcap romp. This film provides some amusing moments, but on the whole fails to deliver in the way it should. It merely follows a sad and disreputable Alan Conway through his mean and petty schemes to an inevitably tawdry conclusion. Don't rent it unless you love John Malkovich.Great premise, but dissapointing and repetitive. - ZombieInvasion
If your a film geek like me this is a pretty enticing premise for a movie. Clearly, John Malkovich is having a ball, hamming it up in increasingly garish costumes, but this movie is unforunately a one trick pony. In scene after scene Malkovich does his Kubrick routine to mooch free drinks, hotel rooms and to attract the attention of young men. However, this is pretty much all the film has to offer. This slight premise as a short film could have been briliant, but as a feature it feels long and padded. The best moments in the film are the musical references to Kubrick. Where music from "Clockwork Orange" is being aburdly juxtaposed to Malkovich's latest antics. Its worth a glance if your a cinephile, others will probably be bored.
