Tsunami: The Aftermath
This edition has the movie spanning two discs, but will be shipped together and treated as only one title on your ZipList.
The story of those who survived.
A tale of personal loss, survival, and hope, this HBO mini-series focuses on the harrowing aftermath of the tsunami that devastated the coast of Thailand on December 26, 2004. Filmed on location in Thailand, Tsunami: The Aftermath follows a group of characters whose lives are irrevocably transformed by the cataclysmic natural disaster. Among those whose stories are followed are a young couple searching for their child; a Thai survivor who loses his family and tries to prevent developers from seizing the land his village is built on; an Englishwoman whose husband and son are missing; an ambitious reporter; a relief worker; an overwhelmed British official whose faith in the system is torn apart; and a leading Thai meteorologist, whose earlier report detailing the inevitability of a tsunami hitting the affected area was ignored.

This is a superbly made film, it is a shame that it was not intended for the big screen because it would have surely won acclaim everywhere. The anguish of the disaster is combined with the drama that comes afterward and even though it is a fictional account of that terrible event, it is gripping and compelling. Some may find it a bit long and tedious but overall it is a work well done. Not bad but drags a bit. - jocedeg
For those expecting a disaster movie, read the title again: Aftermath. This movie is not a recreation of the disaster but a fictitious account of what happened after.
The tsunami sequence is shown using real amateur footage of the event. No big spectacular Hollywood effects here. The low budget shows but the acting is quite good and makes up for the lack of action sequences.
Tim Roth's presence dominates but Chiwetel Ejiofor, as a father looking for his lost daughter and Sophie Okonedo (from Aeon Flux) as his grieving and shocked wife, almost steal the show.
Toni Collette, as a sarcastic humanitarian worker, rounds up a great cast in a good, but maybe a bit overlong HBO production.
Definitely worth a rental.
