The Ex
Nothing burns like an old flame.
Moving from New York City to Madison, Wisconsin, after the birth of their baby, Tom and Sofia have to adjust to their new roles: Sofia, formerly a high-profile Manhattan attorney, is now a stay-at-home mom, and Tom, who's tried and lost many a job because of his tendency to speak his mind, is now working at the ad agency where Sofia's dad, Bob, works. As Tom discovers that his mentor, Chip Sanders, is actually trying to sabotage him (though not as much as Tom inadvertently sabotages himself), he realizes that maybe advertising isn't for him - just as a frustrated Sofia begins to realize that maybe she's not the stay-at-home mom type.

"Nothing amazing, but had some funny bits."
This movie seemed to have a goal of not having any original jokes or even any humor at all. Worse is searching The Ex online you come up dry or with dating advice... Batemans PR team mustive done some online cleaning up. sad really!
Bateman could have saved the movie, if the director allowed him more breathing room. My mom always told me "If you haven't got nothing nice to say- don't say it at all." That saying applies here.good - zordock
This movie is pretty good, I saw it a few months ago. I would recommend it for anyone who likes movies of this genre. Also, if you like movies from this star actor then you will like it for sure. Anytime I see their movies I feel like it's their best movie yet. Either their best or worst really, but this was probably their best until that most recent one they made. I think it's going to be a close one.. who knows.A comedy without the funny - thenewguy
The Ex is a sort of reverse romantic comedy where the main characters start out newly married and in love and sort of fall apart. Or, rather, are systematically taken apart by "the ex". This movie could have alternatively been titled "Tom's job and marriage are slowly damaged by some dude who went to high school with his wife", but of course it wouldn't have been as catchy.
The film has its good points. These are good actors and they make the most of what is largely a bland script. It's a safe-feeling movie. The funny parts fall short and the dramatic parts aren't really touching. The movie appears to be aiming down the middle of the road the entire time.
If you take this film to a party, chances are no one will hate it, but no one is likely to fall in love with it either.
Braff and Peet do a good job of portraying a married couple going through hard times, they have good chemistry together.
Also, check out the alternative endings on the DVD. The theatrical version felt quite a bit different to me than the standard DVD version.
