Annabelle Gurwitch make this documentary after being fired from a play by Woody Allen. He actually called her retarded!! She also wrote a book and did an off Broadway play with people talking about being fired. You get to see excerpts from this play and they are hilarious!!
You get to see people, mostly actors, talking about being fired. They are all pretty hilarious while relating those stories. The ones with Fisher Stevens and the writer from The facts of life are probably the funniest!
If you love documentaries, this is for you. She is also serious at moments when she goes to Lansing where the GM workers are having layoffs at their plant. She should make some more documentaries.
Be sure to watch the outtakes, they are longer than the documentary and even funnier!A bit of a mish mash. - cathyottawa
At first, it seems B list actress Annabelle Gurwitch (she's one of those actresses that makes you go "I know her from something" but you can't figure out what) is making a mockumentary on the subject of being fired.
She pretends to be depressed and hitting the bottle hard, and gets some marginally more famous friends to console her, and share some "I was fired" stories for the camera.
But then she suddenly decides she's going to be serious, and does things like take her camera to Lansing Michigan to talk to GM workers.
But there isn't really alot of substance here. Her serious bits are sort of Micheal Moore light, with Ben Stein, and some other expert whose name I forget, being the only ones with anything insighful to say. I prefered it when she just tried to be funny.
In the end, the message of the film is, if you get fired, move on. Umm, okay. Thanks.
The best bits come from an off broadway show she put together that had people telling stories about being fired in a sort of Vagina Monologues kind of way. I wished the film had just been that whole show - it looked hilarious.
